How to make organic (horchata)

There is no summer without a fresh and homemade horchata. Imagine having the recipe and prepare it at your own home so you can enjoy your favorite drink when you feel like it! Below you’ll learn two recipes that are very easy to prepare.

Tigernut horchata

It’s an extremely healthy drink that is obtained from the tiger nut which has many properties among them it helps to improve the intestinal transit, it is detoxifying and very nutritious.

Tip: if instead of sugar if we add sweetener it becomes a perfect refreshment for diabetics.

Ingredients:

  • 250 gr. of Chufa nuts—also known as “tiger nuts” or “earth almonds”—
  • 1 liter of water
  • The rind of a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • Sugar as you like.

The first thing to do is to leave all night or at least 8 hours the tiger nuts to soak.Place the soaked nuts, about half the soaking water, the cinnamon in a blender.  You can also use a kitchen robot, or a mixer.

When we have the chufas grinded we will add the sugar and then pass the mixer again to avoid that there are lumps. Little by little, we pour the cold water without ceasing to beat, to get all the juice out of the tigernut. T Again, strain the mixture, combining the two runnings of horchata and this time discarding (hopefully composting) the solids. Taste the horchata and adjust the sugar level, if desired. Store covered in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving. Enjoy chilled. Consume within 3 days for best flavor.

Rice horchata water

Surely you’ve heard about the rice horchata water. A very nutritious and perfect drink to hydrate on hot days. As you will see below, it’s very easy to prepare it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of raw white rice and washed
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • 1 can of evaporated milk
  • 1 liter of water
  • Sugar to taste
  • Cinnamon to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

Put a liter of water to heat in a pot, when it begins to boil add the rice. It is important to let the rice stand out of the fire for at least an hour.

We strain the rice and we pass it through the blender together with half a liter of the water that we have used previously and we also add sugar, condensed milk, vanilla extract and milk evaporated. Beat until everything is very well integrated.

Finally, refrigerate or serve in glasses with ice and add cinnamon to taste.

Ready to enjoy!
