A Son de Mar, Mediterranean menu at Marina Botafoch

Those who believe that the island closes in winter, or that Marina Botafoch is reserved for wealthy pockets, they are doubly wrong.

We have visited “A Son de Mar“, a restaurant located at Marina Botafoch, that is open all year round and offer the best quality, plentiful and affordable menus of the day.

What distinguishes this restaurant is the price-quality ratio. “A Son de Mar” offers Mediterranean cuisine, with fresh and various products, at very affordable prices for the location it has.

What is more, A Son de Mar organizes any type of custom-made event with personalized menus, according to the needs of each client or company. It can be for example a family occasion, celebration with friends, business dinners or a traditional Christmas dinner that is about to come. A Son de Mar is open to any ideas and adapts whatever each client demands.

From Monday to Friday you can enjoy the delicious menus of the day for only 18€ (drinks not included). The menu changes daily and consists of an appetizer, 3 starters to choose from, 3 main courses to choose from (among which you will always find a rice or a fideuá) and 3 delicious desserts, always homemade among which one usually includes a fresh fruit.

On weekends, the offer changes and at midday “A Son de Mar” offers an exquisite menu for 29.50€. The menu consists of 4 dishes:

  • A light snack from the house
  • 3 tempting starters to share, among which you can always choose a salad with tuna or some different seafood
  • 3 main courses to choose from: among those you can always find fideuá and varied kinds of rice
  • Dessert of the day

The menu also includes bread, water, coffee and a glass or cocktail of cava.

We got the opportunity to try the famous menu of the day. The first thing served to us was escalivada of sardines with anchovy. This delicious appetizer was the perfect introduction to the food we were about to taste.

For starters, we had a citrus salad with anchovies. A tasty, varied salad, that consists of a mix of lettuce, tomato, olives, pickles and anchovies, which is put together with some citrus, that brings a touch of freshness.

Another starter we tried, was the chicken cannelloni with bechamel and parmesan. The way of preparing all the ingredients resulted in a very smooth combination of flavors that just melted in our mouths.

As the main dish, we tried the grilled entrecote with chiriva cream, that had the perfect cooking point, golden on the outside and little done inside. The quality and freshness of the products were noticeable in each bite. What´s more, the crispy, homemade English potatoes, along with the mashed potatoes, let the juice of the meat mix all together and create an exquisite dish.

“A Son de Mar” is famous above all for preparing delicious rice dishes. That´s just why we couldn´t go without trying one of them, and since the menu included it, we ordered the “meloso” rice with prawns. The rice was at its optimum, with the perfect consistency, and together with the unique touch of the exquisite prawns, it had an especially delicious taste.

To finish, although we were already very full, we could not resist to try the delicious desserts of the house. One of them was apple strudel, which was accompanied with delicious vanilla ice cream. I have lived in Austria and Germany so I know this dessert pretty well and I know, that usually it´s difficult to find a good strudel outside the Germanic countries. That´s why “A Son de Mar” surprised me so much and moved me back to my times in Austria. The flaky pastry, tasty apple filling and the cold ice cream contrast created ,for me, the best apple strudel I’ve tried outside of Germany or Austria.

The second dessert we tried was the greixonera, a typical Ibicenco dessert, with a texture similar to a flan and a sweet flavor. We have tried dozens of variants of this popular Ibizan cake, and we have to admit, that “A Son de Mar” knows how to give it the authentic, traditional flavor. For sure it will not disappoint the most orthodox Ibicencan diners.

In summary, we had a very pleasant time, with delicious food, good quantities, professional preparation and fresh products, at an affordable price. Definitely an option to consider for a midday meal in front of the sea.

It is worth to mention, that all year long, the restaurant offers a delivery service for boats. Although they do not deliver at home, they offer a take-away service, so you can step by and admire the amazing views even just for a moment.
