Veggie crisps: a healthier snack

It is fair to say that in Spain, we are all big fans of snacking! Crisps are a big part of the traditional Spanish aperitivo -the social act of snacking before the main meal- and today, Ibiza Foodies will help you prepare an original version of this yummy treat, vegetable crisps.

Summer is already here and most of us are trying to look at what we eat. For this reason, we want to show you that eating healthy doesn’t mean eating boring food. Vegetable crisps are easy to prepare and as long as you follow our simple steps, you’ll be enjoying them in no time:

Start by choosing the produce you want to use. You’ll have to find starchy alternatives that are similar to potatoes, like radish, butternut squash, carrot or beetroot. Some of those foods can have moisture that you should remove before cooking.

  1. Wash and cut your vegetables as thin as possible. Peeling them is optional, but as the foodie you are, feel free to add your personal touch – with seasoning for example.
  2. Pick your cooking method. Deep frying is not the only option and alternatives like baking, microwaving or pan-frying can be equally as good but much healthier.
  3. Different cooking methods have different cooking times. Pan-frying and oven baking should take approximately 20 minutes, but checking the crisps regularly would be smart.
  4. Once the crisps are done, let them cool down for a bit so they can get that crispy texture.
